Streetcar Company Announces The Cast of Their Spring Musical, 'Jekyll and Hyde'
An evocative tale of the epic battle between good and evil will be brought to life right here in
the Lakes Region this Spring. 'Jekyll & Hyde' is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886
novella about a brilliant doctor who, distraught over his father's mental illness, embarks upon
a quest to isolate the dual elements of good and evil that constantly struggle for supremacy
inside every human being. However, when his experiment backfires, Jekyll inadvertently gives
life to Edward Hyde, his evil alter ego, a murderous being who will let loose a reign of terror
on the city of London and those who had ridiculed Jekyll's research.
'Jekyll & Hyde' is pure pulse-pounding theatre, with that same macabre combination of fun
and fright that fuels such hit classics as, 'Sweeney Todd,' and 'The Phantom of the Opera,'
and enjoys a surprisingly lush, romantic score that includes the hit songs, "This Is The
Moment," and, "Someone Like You." A true musical theatre phenomenon, 'Jekyll & Hyde'
attracted legions of loyal fans even before the show began its smash-hit Broadway run.
'Jekyll & Hyde' was originally produced in 1990 at the Houston's Tony Award-winning Alley
Theatre. An instantaneous success with audiences and critics alike, it went on to break box
office records, and its original run was extended four times during that first summer. In 1997
'Jekyll & Hyde' made its Broadway debut at the Plymouth Theatre. Another resounding
success, this production was nominated for 4 Tony Awards. Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll/Hyde)
won the Drama Desk award for Best Actor in a Musical. And Linda Eder (Lucy) won a 1997
Theater World Award for Outstanding Debut Performer in New York City.
Due to the extreme complexities of all aspects of the production for this Show, especially for
the special effects required, precious few Community Theatre Groups in all of New England
have ever attempted to produce 'Jekyll and Hyde.' As such, Streetcar Company is
producing this incredible show under the Direction of Jessica Alward, with Musical Direction
by Phil Breton. As stated, 'Jekyll & Hyde' promises to be a challenge for the entire Streetcar
Company Design and Technical teams: Set Designer J Alward, Lighting Designer Jordan
Tankard, and Costumer Gay Bean. Additional technical support is being provided by Set
Construction Foreman Mac Keysar, Props Masters Amie Hayward and Kris Snow, and
House Managers Jane and Red Charland.
The multi-talented cast includes: Scott Alward in the title role, Johan Andersen as Sir
Danvers Carew, Jill Petersen as Emma Carew, Tamara McGonagall as Lucy Harris, John
Shelley as John Utterson, and Rodney Martell as Simon Stride. Supporting roles will be
played by Lynn Dadian, Lynn Rowson, Patte Sarausky, Karl Kimball, Marcus Ray Connell,
Doreen Sheppard, Matt Demko, Peter Brunette, and Jessica Alward. The ensemble includes
Kris Snow, Trent Hayward, Amie Hayward, Sue Anderson, Nerrishia Bodwell, Kathy Blake,
Lynn Swenson, Sarah Watson, Mariah Smith, Holly Mullett, Allison Mullett, Riley Alward,
