The Streetcar Company to present Theater In The Park
For the 3rd year in a row, The Streetcar Company community theater group will present
a series of free one act plays in Laconia’s Historic Rotary Riverside Park next to The Belknap
Mill in August.
This years performances are sponsored by The Putnam Free Lecture Series.

On August 4th and 11th the group will present plays by Pat Wilson, Cleve Haubold, Robert
Mattson, Damian Trasler and Jeff Gove. While not necessarily household names, their works
are sure to delight the audiences.

First up on Monday, August 4th are:
‘The Reunion’ by Pat Wilson, ‘The Mice Have Been Drinking Again’, by Cleve Haubold,
and
‘The Prisoners of Hazelteen Ave.' by Robert Mattson.

Directed by
Lynn T. Dadian, 'The Reunion' features a sequel to last summer’s enjoyable
‘Funeral Tea’ also by Wilson. Where last year’s play followed our company of English ladies
as they prepared to send off the cremated ‘Uncle Jacob’ with tea, sandwiches, and an urn
that closely resembled the tea caddy, this production takes place one week later. The ladies
are gathering again to do right by Uncle Jacob and read a letter his sisters have uncovered
while going through his things. Jacob’s home-made wine, misplaced boots,
and that darn old urn come together to present a laugh filled time.
Featured in the play are
Joanne Morin as Mrs. Murgatroyd, Patte Sarausky as Miss Starkie,
Joan Frates as Mrs. Ellis, and Jane Charland as Mrs Booth.

Directed by
Abe Dadian, ‘The Mice Have Been Drinking Again` casts Diane Nickerson, and
Rick Kincaid, as Julie and Jerry, who live with Julie’s cousin, Roxanne, played by, Maggie
Nickerson
, in a lovely San Francisco home. Problem is, they never have any “alone” time
because her cousin is
ALWAYS around. Some matchmaking efforts by Jerry,
bring
Harold, played by Trent Hayward, on the scene to hopefully remedy the problem.

Directed by
Joanne Morin, in 'The Prisoners of Hazelteen Ave.' we find Rhoda, played by
Lynn T. Dadian, and her brother Gordon, played by Johan Andersen, biding their time in a
room as prisoners when suddenly
Daisy, played by Joan Frates, is thrown into the mix. So the
questions are: Why are they there, who are the captors, and what can they do to escape?
Finding out the answers is will be an enjoyable experience for all.

Between the plays on the 4th,
musical entertainment will be provided by Nerrishia Bodwell
and
Marcus Ray Connell, both are active Streetcar members, and were recently
featured in this spring’s musical review.

On Monday, August 11th:
‘The Red Balloon’ by Damian Trasler, and, 'Dinner with The McGuffin’s’ by Jeff Gove

‘The Red Balloon‘, directed by Danielle DeLisle, features Amey Garnett, as The Girl,
Val Hammond, as The Woman, and Marcus Ray Connell, as The Man in a play where a young
woman, acting in her first production, tries to improve on her presentation ...
with a little help from the audience.

Rounding out this year’s series is
‘Dinner With The McGuffin’s‘, directed by Matt Demko. This
typical family comedy following a young man trying to entertain his girlfriend while dealing
with the interruptions of family, turns untypical when  the ultimate interruption comes
and breaks the actors
4th wall allowing him to “see” the audience. Comedy abounds as he
tries to convince the others of what he sees. Cast in the play are Trevor Chandler as James,
Maggie Nickerson as Karen, Diane Nickerson as Helen, Rick Kincaid as Dwight,
Doug Embree as Grandpa, Simone Henderson as Agent Smith,
Nerrishia Bodwell as Agent Wesson, and Brianna Plume as The Plant.

During the break between this week’s plays,
Larry Thompson, a crowd favorite at last year’s
series, will once again be singing several popular numbers.

The rain date for the August 4th shows would be August 5th, and the August 11th rain date
would be on the 12th. Shows will start at 7pm and folks are encouraged to bring lawn chairs
or blankets. The shows are free to the public (donations are always welcomed) and
refreshments will be sold to benefit the company.
